He's also shown to be a surprisingly good listener, lending an ear and comfort to both Shrek and Fiona's problems on multiple occasions and even acting as a secret-keeper for the latter regarding her curse for a short while. Despite his many flaws, Donkey is a steadfast character whose friendliness comes from a place of genuine kindness, and it's been proven several times that his insistence on becoming friends with others can be not only effective, but bring the best out of even the most hostile of recipients, something best seen in both his best friend Shrek and his eventual wife, Dragon. However, there's one thing Donkey is very obstinate about - making friends. For these reasons and more, Donkey can prove to be somewhat of a (dense, irritating, miniature beast of) burden while journeying with others. Some of Donkey's foibles include noisiness, acrophobia, colorblindness, hypochondria (fear of illness), and gutlessness. Donkey is also often quite gutless and tends to freak out in the face of danger, which often proves trying in emergencies while coupled with his impatience and short attention span. He enjoys singing, idle chatter and often speaks ebonics, and while rarely ill-intentioned can prove rather oblivious and irritating those around him (especially Shrek). Sadly, his wits might resemble those of a child as well.Donkey is a gray donkey with brown eyes and a black mane.Ĭontrary to his species' stubborn stereotypes, Donkey is a hyperactive, simple-minded chatterbox, whimsical, and sociable to a fault. Whether he’s fleeing from a fire-breathing dragon, or just dancing to the tune of his own voice, Donkey is as spry as a child. Donkey also gets bonus points for bringing a dragon to the team. Donkey never seems to stop running his mouth, or his little hooves for that matter. Donkey’s harassment is the only reason that Shrek does, well, anything. Donkey is living proof that if you’re annoying enough you can change the world. Personality… sunny, talkative, energetic. But Donkey just might know the way into anyone’s heart: “In the morning…I’m making waffles!” It’s a hard road to walk: changing a bitter ogre into a happy companion. Donkey is constantly struggling to get Shrek to look on the brighter side of life, to give up his grumpiness and sing along with Donkey. He does meet a dragon who develops a serious crush on him, but do they have enough in common?Ĭhallenge… balancing out Shrek. He’s alone in this world for now, but his heart is wide open, and any creature who tickles his fancy could easily become Donkey’s one and only. Interests… talking, singing, and parfaits. She called me a ‘noble steed.’ She thinks I'm a steed!” So sure, let’s call Donkey’s profession “noble steed.” When he accompanies Shrek on a quest to save a princess from a dragon’s lair, the princess declares him a “noble steed.” Donkey is beside himself with joy, telling Shrek: “All right, I hope you heard that. Profession… talking donkey, though that’s not a job so much as a way of life. At least Donkey considers Shrek his best friend Shrek isn’t always so sure. Donkey even sleeps outside when Shrek won’t let him in luckily, Shrek pities the shivering donkey and gives him a blanket. Donkey is indebted to Shrek for saving him from some evil knights, so even though Shrek doesn’t want anything to do with him, Donkey remains by his side, loyal as a pet dog. Living… right now with Shrek, an ogre, in Shrek’s cottage in the middle of a swamp. Grew Up… probably with his owner, an old lady who later wishes to pawn him off for a reward because he’s a magical talking donkey.
